Expert Boiler Repairs by LHS Gas Safe Engineers in Chingford

This week our Gas Safe engineer attended three different boiler jobs across Chingford. From boiler repairs to emergency breakdowns, here's what we found and how the issues were resolved.

Job 1 – Boiler Repair on Kings Road, Chingford

Customer called us to say their boilers hot water was running hot and cold on a Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi 32kW combi boiler.

What we found

• Boiler temperature running into the high 90's

• Burner cutting out in hot water mode

• Hot water temperatures max was reaching 35 degrees

The cause was due to a blocked plate heat exchanger, this was removed and cleaned, the boiler was also flushed to remove and further debris stuck in other components and prevent these from being transferred back into the cleaned plate heat exchanger. A system flush and a magnetic filter was recommended to prevent future contamination entering the boiler.

Job 2 – Ideal Boiler Repair on The Drive, Chingford

The homeowner reported no hot water and an F1 fault code on an Ideal Logic 24kW system boiler situated in kitchen cupboard.

After diagnosing the appliance we found low system pressure caused by a leaking thermostatic radiator valve upstairs in the master bedroom.

Work completed

• Repaired leaking thermostatic radiator valve

• Re-pressurised heating system

• Reset boiler to clear fault code

• Checked for further leaks within the boiler

• Tested heating and hot water for correct operation

  
  

The boiler was back up and running within the 1st visit.

Job 3 – Vaillant Boiler Repair on The Ridgeway, Chingford

The customer called to state that their Vaillant Ecotec pro 28 combi boiler was leaking and required an emergency callout.

During inspection we noticed:

• The plate heat exchanger was leaking from one side next to the pump

• The auto air vent AAV was also leaking into the casing

• Low pressure in the pressure gauge

  
  

The plate heat exchanger was removed and new seals were fitted, AAV was replaced and the boiler pressure was topped up to the recommended level, heating and hot water were tested for correct operation. A boiler service was also arranged which include a water qualtity test.

The plate heat exchanger was leaking from one side next to the pump on a Vaillant combi boiler.
